Like many of the smaller townships in the Blue Mountains, Lawson is essentially a Community Village with some particularly beautiful bushwalks on both its northern and southern extremities.
Its distinctive Blue Mountains Hotel alerts the traveller but it is only by leaving the Great Western Highway and travelling to the edges of the ridge that the beauty and wildness of the area is fully appreciated.
Since the 2006 highway widening, Lawson has become the “foodie” capital of the Blue Mountains offering a huge variety of food types.
The walks in South Lawson can be accessed from several points along Honour Ave, within an easy walk of the train station. This includes four waterfalls: Adelina Falls, Cataract Falls, Federal Falls and Junction Falls. While not having the height of upper mountains waterfalls, this waterfalls walk can be completed in 2 hours.
On the north side of town beyond the swimming centre, walks take in Fairy Falls, Dante’s Glen, St Michael’s Falls, and Echo Bluff (sometimes referred to as Echo point).
