Born out of a personal desire to return to a more abstract expressionistic style. My intention was to create a body of work that I felt conveyed an energetic and vibrant experience – as a way of both expressing a physical sensation and as a means of creating a physical sensation when being viewed.
This body of work is by no means a complete shift away from the figure, more evident in my earlier paintings, as there remains many figures contained within the lineal layers in the new works.
I personally feel it is more like a returning to the primal source scenario, where we find the original concentrated forms of energy from which they usually emerge. The passage of life and death along with the relationship of cause and effect are both themes which I like to explore and express through my arts practice. I utilise semi-abstract figures and symbols as a way to express my thoughts and feelings about these subjects.
